Yorckstrasse Fräulein.
Roof Apartment Renovation. Berlin, Germany / Budget 60'000 €
Where the districts of Kreuzberg and Schöneberg meet, Berlin is home to a magnificent building from the Wilhelminian period. The apartment "Yorckstraße Attika" extends over the side wing of the stately old building.
The aim of the reconstruction is to create a generous space out of the strictly given structure of the side wing. The apartment is west-facing and flooded with light. A covered, intimate terrace faces a charming, quiet courtyard that has typical Kreuzberg flair.
In the course of the conversion, the vertical wooden structure of the roof is exposed again, all non-load-bearing walls are thus removed. The kitchen and living room, which are located on two different levels, are now connected by means of an open staircase covered with parquet flooring. The staircase no longer serves only a functional purpose, it is also a striking design element of the living space. Checkroom and kitchen are compactly placed in the entrance area of the apartment, thus giving both dining and living space generosity.
The features of all the selected materials and finishes remain rather subtle, while the bathroom stands out with its eye-catching mint green mosaic tiles.
Through the bathroom window, one looks into the courtyard and far over the rooftops of Kreuzberg.
